Carly & Momo - Helicopter Elopement Giveaway Winners
Picture this - you return home from a run to find your fiancé jumping up and down, phone in hand with her sister on FaceTime, yelling a frantic mix of “we won! We’re getting married! I told you we would! It’s happening!”
That’s how Momo found out that the giveaway his partner Carly entered them in on Instagram, the one for an all-inclusive helicopter elopement in Revelstoke, was actually theirs for the taking. It took him a few minutes to let it all sink in. “Nobody wins these things,” he had told Carly the day before, preparing her for the disappointment when they, inevitably, wouldn’t win. But it turns out real people do win these things, and this time, those real people were Carly and Momo.
We exchanged some emails and a zoom call, getting to know each other and reviewing everything they had won. Carly & Momo picked a date, made a few decisions, and left the rest to me. The only thing they had to do was book the days off work and find a suit and dress. I planned the timeline, booked the vendors, and before we knew it September was nearly over and their big day had arrived.
I met up with Carly & Momo in downtown Revelstoke the day before their elopement to deliver their wedding bands from Kat Cadegan Jewellery, along with a welcome pack from See Revelstoke. We then went into Forage & Fill for a shopping spree with Jenise to find outfits for their post-ceremony dinner. I used the time to get to know the couple more, and they found some perfect looks, including a jacket that literally brought Carly to tears. The first of many over the next 48 hours.
Back at their accommodations at Boulder Mountain Resort, Andrea, owner and operator of Apres Adventure Massaga & Wellness, had turned their geodome into their own spa oasis. Carly and Momo were treated to a luxurious couples massage, complete with hot stones and aromatherapy, to make sure they were nothing but relaxed going into their elopement.
The next morning we woke to a mix of sun and clouds with a looming chance of rain. Carly and Momo picked up their marriage license from the BC Services office in town (the one thing I can’t do for them) and headed for breakfast at Dose Coffee (now Spilt Milk) - complete with Carly’s favourite gluten free bread from Flourish Bakery. After breakfast they just had to cross the street to Birch & Lace Hair Company where Momo got a fresh haircut and Carly had her hair and makeup done.
Meanwhile, I popped in to Left Field Floral to pick up their bouquet and boutonnière. We all met back up at their accommodation where I photographed, along with my husband Bryce capturing video, the pair putting on their finishing touches.
Finally, it was off to Glacier Helicopters to fly to their location site. Our pilot Josh informed us that although the rain held off, the skies were very rough up high and we would need to stay closer to ground today. Luckily, Revelstoke is beautiful at any elevation, and we took a stunning flight down the Jordan River Valley and found a spot to land on a sandbar surrounded by the flowing river and tall canyon walls.
It was here where Carly and Momo took their time exchanging vows, rings, and a at last a first kiss as husband and wife. They celebrated along the rocks and enjoyed their flight home, this time each of them sporting a new ring.
But the party wasn’t over yet - after a quick change (and some wildly fast editing on my part) we headed downtown for dinner at Cantina Del Centro. I sent Carly a gallery link with some preview photos of their elopement from a mere hour earlier and for the first time got to witness my clients reactions to seeing their wedding photos! We then we left them to enjoy dinner together before a few friends arrived to bowl and laugh the night away.
