Winter Elopements at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

One of the most common elopement requests I get is for winter adventures at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Below I’ll break down the different options for your day.

Getting to Revelstoke

One of the reasons that Revelstoke is often quieter than other mountain resort towns is because it can be a bit of a challenge to get to. There is no commercial airport in Revelstoke and only 3 roads in and out. Located on the Trans Canada in interior BC, most visitors arrive from either Calgary and the Rocky Mountains to the East or Kelowna and the Okanagan to the West. There is also a highway coming from the south that connects visitors from the Spokane area through the West Kootenays. Unless you live within a day’s drive of Revelstoke, we highly recommend flying to Kelowna to get to town in the winter. The 2.5 hour drive is the most reliable route and you can book public shuttles or private airport transfers in advance. Always be sure to check Drive BC in advance to be aware of any construction, accidents, or closures.

Where to Stay

There are tons of options for accommodations in Revelstoke. Staying at the Sutton Place Hotel right at RMR is extra convenient, and their outdoor pool area is fabulous. Their rooms are all set up like condos, with kitchens to make your stay extra comfortable. Mackenzie Village is also a short drive away with great Airbnb condos - most of which include a hottub on the balcony. The complex has a brewery, coffee shop, and restaurant. In the centre of town, there are more condo and hotel options, like Basecamp Resorts, The Regent Hotel, and The Grizz. I like these because there are tons of dinner options within walking distance. If you’re looking for a more private escape, Alpha Mountain Lodging or Glacier House Resort offer cabins in the woods and great amenities like a sauna or hottub. And of course, if you’re a points person, we have chain hotels like the Fairfield, Sandman, Best Western, and Ramada.

Valentine’s Day Elopements

Every valentine’s day, RMR hosts free marriage ceremonies at the top of the Revelation Gondola. While everyone in your party still needs to purchase a ski or sightseeing pass, the resort covers the officiant fee and provides a few extra freebies. The space next to the Mackenzie Outpost is set up with an arch and seating and there’s a spot nearby to enjoy a flute of champagne and cupcake compliments of the resort. You also get to take home a cute little RMR ski run sign that says Just Married. In preparation, you need to purchase a BC Marriage License and bring it with you on the 14th.

The mountain is always full of great energy on Valentine’s Day, with heart sunglasses being worn, love songs playing on the speakers, and lots of cheers and congratulations being called out. It’s also fun to get to share your excitement with other couples who are also getting married! If you are someone who prefers more privacy on your wedding day, however, this might not be the best option for you. The ceremonies are in a busy location with lots of onlookers, so check out the other options below if this isn’t your preference.

Spots fill up fast, so keep an eye on RMR’s website around the start of the ski season to see when registration opens. You’ll want to fill out their form as soon as it opens for your best chances at securing a place.

You can fill the rest of your day skiing or snowboarding at the resort and enjoying apres at one of the on site restaurants. If you’d like photography for your elopement, you can hire me for an hourly rate to document as much as you’d like!

Private Budget Elopements

If you’re on a budget but still want a winter wonderland mountain elopement, this is the option for you. We meet at the base of the mountain and make our way up on the gondola. You will be responsible for purchasing either a sightseeing or skiing ticket, depending on your plans for the rest of the day. At the top of the gondola we will walk past the restaurant to a seldom noticed path in the trees. This will take us to a beautiful lookout of the valley and peaks beyond. It’s the perfect private location for your ceremony and some photos to celebrate.

This package includes 90 minutes of photography for your ceremony and portraits. I also organize your officiant and offer you 1 free enhancement item, like a bouquet and boutonniere or having your hair and make-up done at a salon. View pricing and package details here.

The Main Event - Half Day Adventures

For couples who want to ski or snowboard on their wedding day! Like the other options, we’ll meet at the base and make our way up the gondola. We’ll stop at the private lookout for some portraits before putting on helmets and clicking/strapping into our skis and boards. Then we’ll ride over to one of the chairlifts to climb the mountain higher and search out the perfect spot for your ceremony. If it’s windy, we’ll duck into the trees, but if the sky is clear and calm we can make use of the magnificent views from the top of the Stoke Chair. We can even hike sub peak or lemming line if you want a little extra adventure. After your ceremony, we have time to ski a little more before grabbing a bite at the Outpost or Revelation Lodge.

If you want it all, this is made for you. We’ll start at your accommodation in the morning, with photos of you getting ready together, before taking some portraits in town. We’ll make our way to the resort and spend the whole day taking photos, skiing, and - of course - getting you married! You’ll get to enjoy apres on the mountain and then head to your accommodation to freshen up for dinner. We’ll take some photos in your evening outfit as well before I leave you for the night.
